WHAT WE DO

CIVICS

Encouraging civic pride and contributing to the overall improvement of our neighborhood through landscape design, floral design, the preservation of green spaces and care for our community members.

Entrances

Four entrances into the Smoke Rise community, off Hugh Howell Road, benefit from the attentions of the Smoke Rise Garden Club. Each year the intersections of Hugh Howell Road with Deer Ridge Drive, Stoneleigh Drive, Greencastle Way and Glacier Road are given attentive service. The Club plants seasonal flowers, weeds, fertilizes, mulches and mows. New plantings are made each fall and spring. Club members continue to maintain and enhance these areas.

Central State Hospital

Each year the Club decorates stockings for the patients of the Central State Hospital. The club also sends clothing items.

Christmas Decorations

The Smoke Rise Garden Club makes live garlands and wreaths to decorate the entrances to the Smoke Rise community.

Conservatory at Callanwolde

Members of the Smoke Rise Garden Club donate their time in manning the office.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston

The Smoke Rise Garden Club wraps and donates Christmas gifts to the Children’s Egleston Hospital each year.

Habitat for Humanity

Each year the Smoke Rise Garden Club landscapes homes provided by Habitat for Humanity. Club members donate both time and materials for these projects.

Meals for Members

Providing meals for homebound, incapacitated and bereaved members of our club is a welcome project. The committee chairman contacts club members and coordinates the delivery of an evening meal to the family in need of this service.

Plant Exchange

A friendly exchange of plant materials helps Club members, friends and the community beautify their homes inexpensively.

Recycling

To conserve national resources and to raise funds for other Club projects, Smoke Rise Garden Club members participate in the recycling of paper, aluminum cans, glass and plastic.

Sunshine

Our Sunshine Chairman sends cards or flowers to ill or bereaved members.

State Convention

The Smoke Rise Garden Club sends both the outgoing and incoming presidents to the State Convention. All members are encouraged to attend the meetings and events at the convention.

Valentines for the Veterans Hospital

The Club sends Valentines to the patients of the Veterans Hospital to cheer them on Valentine’s Day.

Blue Star Memorial

The Smoke Rise Garden Club joined with two other local garden clubs to purchase and install a Blue Star Memorial, which was installed and maintained on the grounds of Smoke Rise Elementary School.
